Instrumental Music Program
Christopher Peters, Music Works
In
an effort to provide the best comprehensive Christian education possible, St.
Paul's is proud to offer a program of instrumental music and band. Anyone
can learn to play an instrument; and , it is fun and rewarding. The
program will give an insight into the art of music, contribute to a balanced
program of career education, and help develop creativity and
self-confidence. Instrumental music can accomplish more of our academic,
spiritual, social and cultural goals better than any other subject. It has
been an integral part of American education for almost 100 years and continues
to be one of the best tools for learning. It also provides an opportunity
for success for those students who have difficulty with other aspects of the
school curriculum. No other activity can encompass the range of feelings,
experiences and long range academic and personal goals as does music. And,
it is one of the few activities you can do your whole life. In short,
music can help your child get the best out of life.
Program
structure and details
The
program will consist of a beginning or advanced band class, each meeting once
per week. Those interested will be charged a separate tuition fee paid
directly to the instructor. Students who have never placed an instrument
will start in the beginning band and may move to the advanced group as soon as
they reach a competent level. There will be at least two performances
during the year with their school band. Students will also have the
opportunity to participate in activities and events which combine students from
all the Music Works band programs throughout the City. A partial
list of possible activities include a city-wide beginning and advanced band
concert in December and May, and a Music Works Fun Day at a local
recreation or amusement park. For advanced students there will be a
city-wide honor and concert and a field trip performance concert. Class
times have not been set but are tentatively scheduled for an after class meeting
for forty minutes, or the late afternoon hours during school.
Cost
The
cost (far lower that the $15-25 per lesson frequently charged) is only $29 per
month for the entire program. This program offers the highest quality,
instruction at the most affordable rate anywhere. Three payment plans
exist (see below); and if you pay by the year or the semester, you can save an
additional $26. This tuition cost covers all instruction fees, regular
performances and supply of all band music. The tuition fee is paid
directly to Christopher Peters.
Obtaining
instruments, instrument choices and student age requirements
It
will be necessary to provide the student with an instrument in good playing
condition, the necessary accessories such as reeds, valve oil, cork grease,
etc., a small wire music stand to be used at home and for lessons and the Music
Works lesson book. The best way to obtain instruments in through
convenient and affordable rental programs offered at music stores throughout the
City. Most instruments rent for $15-20 per month.
Before
choosing an instrument all interested students will have attended a presentation
of the program and instrument demonstration. They will also have the
opportunity to meet with the instructors individually to help choose the best
instrument for them. The band instruments offered for instruction
are: clarinet, flute, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone,
baritone horn, tuba, drums/percussion. Students may begin on band
instruments as young as 4th grade.
