BEFORE
& AFTER SCHOOL CARE
EXTENDED CARE PROGRAM CONTINUES TO SEARCH...
for talented individuals
willing to give two hours of their time once a month. A flyer went
home to families last month highlighting areas of potential interest
to students. As a result, we had two individuals return the flyer
expressing an interest to provide informative sessions for the
Extended Care Program. Thanks to Karen Andux who will be cooking
with the children. We are also looking forward to the possibility of
learning sign language with the help of Mary Jeanne Phillips. Some
of our students are here with us from 7:00 in the morning until 6:00
p.m. in the evening. Any kind of enrichment activity is welcome in
our program. Ideas include: Calligraphy, sewing, crafts,
landscaping, tennis, scrap booking, cake decorating, crochet, golf,
needlepoint, aerobics, movement/dance, photography, drawing, science
lab, web page building, babysitting techniques, painting, tutoring,
ceramics, sculpting, and musical instruments. Please call if you are
interested in helping us to provide a quality program for our
students!
PHONE NUMBERS After-School
Care (2:40-6:00) - 249-9758
School Office (Until 3:00) - 249-5934 DIRECTOR:
Mrs. Dottie Malsch After
school care is provided for currently enrolled students of St. Paul's Catholic
School. The program operates onall days during which school is in session,
This includes all days on which we have early dismissals. Open
from 2:40p.m. until 6:00 p.m. each school day, the After School Care Program
provides loving care, supervision, recreation and enrichment activities.
It serves working families who desire both parochial school education and
supplementary day care in a Christian environment. St.
Paul's after school care program allows children to experience a rich diversity
of growth activities planned to complement the philosophy and value systems of
the school and family. Also, there is time set aside for homework
completion. Within
a large family environment, the program strives to provide individual attention,
security, consistency and fair treatment for children of working parents. Fees
are the sole support of the St. Paul's After School Care Program. It is
not subsidized by the school or the parish. FEES
and PICK-UPS $2.50
per hour or any portion thereof. Fees
are due in advance and may be sent to the school office or given to the
director. Full
time monthly rates for after school care:

Two children - $198.00
Three children - $265.00 Fees
by the week:
One child - $28.75
Two children - $49.50
Three children - $66.25 Staff
members are employed only until 6:00 p.m. LATE FEE: A substantial
fee of $1.00 per minute per child will be assessed for LATE pick-ups, beginning
at 6:01. Please pay this directly to the After School Care person in
charge at the time of pick-up. EMERGENCY/SAFETY With
the children's safety and well-being in mind, it is MOST important that parents
fill our an information/emergency sheet, and then adhere to the instructions
given. One of
the most important regulations concerns the child's leaving the premises of the
After Car program. Parents
or guardians should not take children from the school yard or other areas
without notifying the Director and signing the children out when picking them up
in the afternoon. Parents
or guardians should not send persons whose name is not on the Emergency Sheet to
ask for the release of children. For the child's safety, the release will
not be granted. Exceptions will never be made. Students
attending After school care on a drop-in basis must be picked up by one of their
parents. If other arrangements have been made, a written note to this
effect must be turned in to the Office before classes start. Another
area of concern, and also related to the child's welfare, is the matter of
telephone messages. Parents
or guardians may wish to telephone the After school care asking that their child
be directed to go to various places after school. As there is always a
possibility that a person other than a parent or guardian might telephone, such
requests will not be granted. The
After school care program has been designed to accommodate the working
parent. Occasionally there is a need for a parent to use this service on a
drop-in basis. An hourly fee has been established to help those who need
to use our service in emergency situations. We
ask parents to please use this drop-in service only when absolutely
necessary. The paperwork required to keep up this courtesy to parents can
become much too time consuming for the caretakers of the program. ILLNESS
OR ACCIDENT In
cases which appear to be of a minor nature, first aid will be administered on
the premises. Medication will not be administered by mouth unless we have
a written statement from the parent authorizing the staff to assist a child in
taking such medication. In
cases which appear serious, the Program Director will make an effort to carry
out the instructions as given on the Emergency Sheet. If
the home does not supply adequate emergency instructions, or if the instruction
given cannot be followed at the time of the emergency, the Program Staff will
act accordingly to their best judgment for the welfare of the child. Parents
who do not wish their child treated in any way should indicate such on the
Emergency Sheet, and should give directions to be followed in the space
provided. HOMEWORK Each
day a homework period is scheduled and help given. It is the child's
responsibility to acknowledge his/her assignment and then to use the resources
available. The After school care staff has no way of knowing what work, if
any, has been assigned to which students. After
a child has checked into After school Care, he/she will not be allowed to return
to their classroom to pick up forgotten items. TOYS
FROM HOME It is
requested that children not bring toys from home. EXPECTATIONS
FOR CHILDREN'S BEHAVIOR Every
child is expected to abide by the rules, respect staff members, other students,
and all property. IF a child violates these standards, we will first take
action by removing the child from the group and seating him/her by him/herself
for a 5 to 30 minute period. IF the child does not respond to this and the
problem behavior persists, the parents will be called in for a conference.
Should there continue to be problems, a second conference will be arranged and
at that time the child may be dismissed from the program. SPECIAL
EVENTS Of
course, we will celebrate the various holidays and holy days as the year
progresses. The Director would welcome a meeting with any parent who would
like to suggest further celebrations or special activities - perhaps your
child's birthday party, etc. Your ideas and suggestions are most welcome. DRESS
CODE Students
will be allowed to change into play clothes each afternoon. It is the
student's responsibility to keep their uniform and shoes together. Please
check to see that all uniform articles are labeled with the student's
name. Tennis shoes and appropriate play clothes should be worn.
Jacked and sweat clothes are needed for colder weather. No tank tops or
inappropriate clothing will be allowed.
